Update
Day One: Hells Mouth with Andy. Sunny, 20C and head high in March. Best surf of 2012 for me by a long way.
Day Two: Hells again, slightly bigger with Carl. Swell is a bit disorganised this time, but a couple of nice ones to talk about on the way home. Stop at Dinas on way back and slide the log down a few smaller more reliable ones in the sunshine.
Day Three: Agreed to go biking earlier in the week (Rule Number 1: Never Commit to Anything), numerous text messages say this is the best day yet. Perfect Carl says. Hopton and then Eastridge on the bikes. Hopton rules, Eastridge is my nemesis.
Day Four: Back down to Pembrokeshire for a couple of days. Quick paddle at Borth before realising the clocks went forward and I’m actually running late, not early. Tide decides we’ve had enough anyway and fattens the waves up to undesirable backwashing lumps. A friendly Kiwi out paddling, too. His first session in 15 years and his inside out wettie suggests he’s not lying. Or his plastic board with no wax… He caught a few nice ones though. Looked at Newgale later and it’s pretty windy, so head to Whitesands to get out of the breeze and have fun on a small wave for a few hours. Love the Sweet Potato and pretty cool watching the loggers get the last waves of the day at sunset.
Day Five: Eyes are blue I’ve been in the sea so much, and I can’t hear very well in one ear. Love it. Got to get to a meeting early so drive past a perfect looking Fresh West with 4 out. End up back at Whitesands later in the day catching head high closeouts. Great fun.
Six, Seven and Eight: Not a lot of swell and things to catch up on.
Day Nine: The frustrations of chasing the right, or indeed any usable conditions. Basically spent all day waiting for the wind to materialise. It wasn’t the best forecast but you never know… End up working on the farm for a few hours…
